Park County Commissioner, District 1
Still your 'tie' to good government!
Three and a half years of experience has not changed my original goals for Park County. Rather, some of those goals have been met, while others have been refined due to the specific nature of and the needs of Park County. There are many issues that I feel are very important to the constituents and myself. I will pinpoint a few on my website page but would welcome any comments, concerns or questions about other issues facing Park County.
Accessibility of elected officials to ALL Park County residents (both sides of Kenosha Pass): I have always made myself available and accountable to all Park County residents. My second year in office I was voted Best Elected Official by the People's Choice Awards, an award I feel I earned by my commitment to being available to all Park County residents. If re-elected, I will continue in these efforts as I feel very strongly that I have the responsibility of being accountable and available at all times. I have utilized the County Offices to make sure that I am available in Bailey on a regular basis, as well as Fairplay. During my last campaign, that was an issue that was important to constituents and I will continue in that practice.
Continuing the process of strengthening the relationship between the citizens and the BOCC: I did and still do, believe that open, honest communication with the community is vital in this relationship and to making this county run smoothly and efficiently. I want to continue rebuilding trust in Park County by being part of the team that is creating an environment where a good working relationship exists between the BOCC and citizens of Park County.
I have supported and will continue to support managed, responsible commercial growth that will benefit Park County residents and also increase the tax base without impacting our way of life here in the mountains. After the past couple of years, never has it been clearer to me that decisions being made today will be deeply impacting Park County in the years to come. Our vision needs to include the likelihood of growth in our community and I believe it is possible to plan and manage our commercial development so that it has a minimal negative impact on our community. The benefits that come from an increased tax base and revenue will help the services that are already in place in our community: ROAD IMPROVEMENT AND MAINTENANCE, emergency services, schools etc. I also believe additional benefits would include more jobs right here in Park County, more services, more goods, less travel on 285 for students and seniors and a boost to Park County by keeping our dollars here.
Continuing the process of creating and managing a budget that will maintain strong, quality services without being a burden to the taxpayer: Currently, the efforts of elected officials and department heads, working together to create and stay within a budget, are commendable. We have heard the constituents and what they are willing and not willing to do. I would like to be able to continue efforts to creatively seek funding streams for departments such as Road and Bridge and Communications and Emergency Services and ways to more efficiently and effectively manage our budget. We are facing the same dilemma everyone else is...how to do more with less.
